Creating My New Media Journal – A Series – Part 1

Back in April, I created a blog post detailing 4 reasons why you should start a media journal. I mentioned in that post that I was going to be using one of my lovely gifted notebooks from Tiefossi as my new media journal. I am slowly but surely making progress with that and so I thought I would create a little series sharing my pages with you all!

Now I will be honest, when I share my bullet journal setups on my personal blog, I just share the pictures and that’s me done and dusted. I don’t want to do that as I want to explain each spread, sharing how I created it and what its purpose is!

In this post, I will be sharing the reading spreads I have created. You’ll remember from my previous post that I use my media journal for everything I read and watch. I like to group things together to keep things cohesive so we will be looking at the reading spreads I have created. Let’s get to it!

The Theme

The first thing I want to do is explain the theme I’ve chosen. I absolutely adore a vintage theme and I wanted to continue with it in my next media journal. There’s just something so warm and comforting about it.

Reading Challenge

The first spread I want to share is my reading challenge spread. This actually serves two purposes for me. Of course, it’s tracking my reading goal of 50 which is something that I’ve done for quite a while now. However, it’s also tracking what genre of books I’m reading. I’ve got a little key at the bottom detailing some of the most common genres that I gravitate to and I can’t wait to see what I read the most in a year!

Reading Tracker

I’m sure you’ve all seen year in pixel spreads before. This is what I use to track how much I’m reading each day. I also use this to mark when I’ve finished a book with a black dot. I like doing this because I can see how long it takes me to finish a book. I always find that sort of thing really interesting!

Book of the Month

This is the first of a couple of new spreads for me. In my previous media journal, I had a book of the year spread. In that, I would choose the best book/film/tv show of the month and pit them against each other to find the best thing of the year. I loved doing that, but I wanted to change things up. With this layout, I can show the book covers which I think will look really good at the end!

5 Star Books

This is another new spread for me. I am someone that doesn’t give out 5 stars very often, especially for books and I wanted to celebrate that. This is a simple table where I’ll list the 5 star books, and share what month I read it in. A simple spread but one I am looking forward to filling out!

Book Series

This is a returning spread for me. I love to keep track of the book series I’ve started. Keeping track of how I’m doing with them is important to me and I will continue to have this spread for as long as I see it useful.

Books I Want to Re-Read

This is another new spread for me. Well, sort of. I have had previous spreads where I have made a note of shows and films I want to re-watch. There are a few books I want to re-read at some point, so I have created this spread to accommodate for that.

To Be Read

Okay, I should say this right now. This spread goes on for a fair few pages but I’m only showing one. It’s basically the same thing where I’ve listed every book on my TBR. However, just know that there is a lot.

So, this is what I’ve created so far! Let me know what you think! I can’t wait to share more spreads in the future with you all. Thank you as always for reading!
