How to Find the Motivation to Journal Again
I don’t know about you all, but sometimes I lose the motivation to journal. I don’t know what it is. Sometimes I don’t have the energy for it, other times I feel a bit overwhelmed and tired, and maybe it’s just as simple as not wanting to. Whatever the reason may be, sometimes I just lose the will to journal.
Now I love journaling. I don’t like when this happens to me because I want to spend time journaling. When I journal, I feel like I get a sense of euphoria. It helps me mentally through tough times. Therefore, I try hard to find that motivation and today I want to share my tips with you all. Let’s get to it!
Remember Why You Started
This is one of the easiest ways to find motivation again. Simply think about why you started to journal in the first place. Was it a creative outlet like I alluded to? Did you journal to organise your life? Or perhaps it was somewhere to document memories. I quite often will look through old journal spreads for inspiration and that allows motivation to come back. Of course, you don’t need to recreate these spreads. It’s alla bout thinking what made you excited to open your journal back then and seeing whether that feeling comes back to you!
Take The Pressure Off
I can’t lie; this is something I need to work on myself. You do NOT need to journal every day.
Look, I’m aware that if you have a daily journal like me, you want to journal every single day. I have started to realise though that I can’t force myself to do something I don’t want to do. Therefore, I have begun to catch up on spreads in my daily journal.
Having said that, I don’t need to do that. There’s no rule that says a daily journal must be filled in every day with no gaps. If you miss a day, a week, a month etc, it’s not the end of the world. Journal when you feel like it, not as a necessity.
Start Small
Do you ever look at a completely blank page and feel completely overwhelmed and intimidated? Yeah, me too.
You can start small. Write a short list of things you’re looking forward to. Write down 5 things you did this week. Stick in a photo or memorabilia to remember something. The point is you don’t have to do something extravagant. One simple thing is enough.
Remember That Your Journal Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect
This is such a big thing to remember when finding motivation to journal again. Your journal doesn’t have to be perfect. Not every spread has to be Instagram worthy with perfect hand-writing and top-notch composition. Your journal is for you. That’s all that matters.
Look For New Inspiration
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get bored with sticking with a certain style in my journals. If that’s the case for you, maybe it’s time to look for new inspiration.
I will quite often spend time looking for new inspiration on the likes of Instagram, TikTok, blogs or YouTube. You can take inspiration from different places and mould that into your own new style.
Of course, there are so many other ways to find the motivation to journal again. I’d be more than happy to do a part two to this post. If you want more ways, let me know! Otherwise, thank you for reading!
